Review Arumeru River Lodge
Month of travel: February
"Our flight arrived too late for us to see the countryside. There was also a grid power outage for a large area so our car trip to the lodge was quite dark. The lodge has generator backup so we were warmly received. The next day was quite foggy so there was no possibility of any view anywhere. The grounds are quite beautiful. Learning the former history of the building as a coffee plantation house prior to the demise of the Tanzania coffee industry was quite interesting. The food was good but not great and I wonder if the simplicity of the food had to do with the limited power available to the kitchen. My room was lovely and very much in keeping with the ambiance of the area. We left the next afternoon so we were not able to enjoy the entire facility."

"Arumeru was fine, but it wouldn't be my first choice. I guess we were close to town, because we could hear something being projected over loud speakers (a sermon or political speech, maybe), and it was rather distracting. This could happen anywhere I guess. Room was full of small crickets by nightfall, and our back patio door wouldn't stay closed/locked. The hotel is a bit stark, we had a great patio, but no chairs on it. The room was fine, but no rugs, a bit cold and sparse."

"We arrived around 10 pm and I couldn't believe there was a friendly and welcoming staff ready to take care of us after a long flight. They were very accommodating in fixing a light dinner for us. We then crawled into comfortable beds. We woke up to be amazed at the stunning landscaping. We could see Mt. Meru from the breakfast patio. Birds were flying everywhere, the most fragrant flowers blooming-- we had arrived in Africa! "
