The Fairview is an increasingly rare African hotel—family-owned and family-run, replete with authentic ambience, comfortable yet without the pretension of excess luxury. A refreshing alternative to international chains, the Fairview’s buildings are scattered amidst five acres of gardens on Nairobi Hill, a world away from the overheated bustle of the city center, creating the feel of a country hotel in town.

Our Expert Says

Located in the city center of Nairobi, this classic colonial-style hotel transports you into an oasis from the urban din. With five acres of tropical gardens, you forget that you’re in the heart of a bustling city. The food is great here, too, and the rooms’ arched windows are a delightful touch.

Review Fairview Hotel
Month of travel: July
"I stayed at the Fairview for 1 night in July, 2013, while changing safari camps from Tanzania to Kenya. After 9 days in the bush, I was ready for more cush accommodations. The Fairview is a beautiful property. I saw it described as an “Oasis in the middle of the city”. That was a very accurate description. The grounds are beautiful. There is an outdoor dining/bar area if you want to enjoy the outdoors. They have a beautiful inside courtyard just outside the restaurant. The lobby area was nicely done with a beautiful wood floor throughout. The staff was extremely professional and helpful. You do not enter the hotel without going through a security checkpoint. The room was large and comfortable. I was given access to the VIP or Premium lounge (I think that’s what they call it). They had Wi-Fi as well as a desktop computer accessible. They serve complimentary snacks, coffee or tea and they had a cash bar (I thought it was inexpensive by US prices). The breakfast buffet the next morning looked like a cruise ship. It offered a wide selection of fresh fruits, breads, cereals, meats, eggs, and of course that good Kenyan coffee. This is first rate hotel by any measure. My wife does not do the safari thing, but I think she would have loved this hotel. I would definitely return if I visit Nairobi again. "

"This place is great if you are a bit more conscious about your budget and want something with easy access to the airport. The grounds are nice and we appreciated the various food options on site. The rooms aren't anything to write home about...I forget what level we asked for, but we upgraded to the biz level I think, those rooms were a bit bigger and sunnier."
