Tangulia Mara Camp is a simple, understated camp where the focus is on guiding and access to some of the best areas of the Maasai Mara ecosystem. Situated overlooking the Olotulo-Murt salt lick on private land, the camp has easy access to the Musiara Marsh, known for the Marsh Pride of lions, and the Mara Triangle, situated to the west of the Mara River, providing one of the most secluded safari experiences in this region.

The Camp

Tangulia Mara Camp is a traditional safari camp built on a rocky hill on private land surrounded by the Greater Mara ecosystem. Owned by Maasai guides Jackson Looseyia, of BBC's "Big Cat Diary," and Dominic Nchoe, the camp has just six tents, showcasing exclusivity at its best. The understated camp sits beneath olive trees and a mix of croton bushes and diospyros abyssinica. Each tent sits on a Talek flat stone floor with a private veranda, double and single bed and a permanent en suite bathroom with a shower. Hot and cold water is plumbed into each tent, and lighting is powered by solar energy. The views from camp range eastward across the Maasai Mara. An open-fronted, thatched lounge and dining area are central to camp and overlook the Olotulo-Murt salt lick, frequented by wildlife and which leads down to the Mara River.

Wildlife Viewing & Activities

Tangulia Mara Camp is ideally located in private lands just outside of the Maasai Mara National Reserve, allowing for guided walks on the slopes of the escarpment and visits to welcoming local villages. Each day game drives can access areas such as the Musiara Marsh, home to the famous Marsh Pride of lions, and the Mara Triangle, the triangle-shaped area of land to the west of the Mara River. These areas have tremendous biodiversity, great big cat viewing and access to the Mara River for seasonal migration river crossings. The Mara Triangle is a particularly less-traveled area of the Maasai Mara, as it's only accessible from a few select of points. This makes it far more exclusive than the Maasai Mara National Reserve in terms of vehicles and people. The wildlife that may be seen in the Mara includes lion, cheetah, leopard, elephant, rhino, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest and other plains game and small species.

The Maasai Mara is home to an abundance of resident wildlife year-round. The great migration of nearly two million wildebeest and zebra is at its peak between late July and early October, while the local Loita wildebeest migration typically arrives in June. Other typical sightings may include a number of antelopes, endemic birds and reptiles. Exact sightings will depend on rain patterns and wildlife movements.
