Perched on the edge of a permanent marsh, Lemala Ndutu Tented Camp is the ultimate amphitheater for the wildebeest migration between December and March. The 12 tents are sited on the breezy west side of a marsh, positioned to capture the boundless drama that accompanies the migration. Here, the migration arrives in the highly nutritious short grass plains, along with abundant resident wildlife and predators in pursuit.

The Camp

Location: Ndutu, Southern Serengeti, Tanzania
Number of Tents: 12

The mobile tents are spacious, and each is fitted with two double beds and combines an authentic bush experience with all the little luxuries that make it so surprisingly comfortable. After an evening game drive, your tent attendant ensures your safari showers are filled with hot water to wash away the dust of the African savanna. The communal areas have separate seating and dining areas and are beautifully decorated with leather sofas, chandeliers, side cabinets, rugs, chests and even a bar. In the evening, guests gather around the campfire to enjoy pre-dinner drinks and canapes.

Wildlife Viewing & Activities

Perched on the edge of a permanent marsh, Lemala Ndutu Tented Camp is the ultimate amphitheater for the wildebeest migration between December and March. The camp is positioned to capture the boundless drama that accompanies the migration. Activities will revolve around daily morning, afternoon and even full-day wildlife drives. The Serengeti is also home to lion, cheetah, hyena, elephant, black rhino and other megafauna. Predators will often be in tow where the wildebeest herds travel, looking for vulnerable or young individuals. Hot air ballooning is also possible at an additional charge of $599 per person, and we recommend booking in advance for availability.

During the famous Great Migration, the wildebeest can be found dropping their young in the southern Serengeti between December and March, and are typically found attempting to cross the Mara River in the northern Serengeti between July and October. The resident wildlife in the park is found year-round. Other typical sightings may include jackal, warthogs and a number of other mammals, birds and reptiles. Exact sightings will depend on rain patterns and wildlife movements.
