Perched on a bush-cloaked ridge with fabulous views over the expanse of Serengeti National Park, Kirawira Tented Camp is the epitome of colonial-inspired safari luxury. The camp’s 25 deluxe tents are erected on raised platforms of rope-lashed logs and shaded by thatched roofs. At the back of each tent is an elegant mahogany-paneled bathroom with twin marble washstands, polished brass fittings and a classic black-and-white-tiled Edwardian shower and lavatory. The sun terrace offers broad vistas of the rolling volcanic landscape. Wildlife Viewing & Activities
Kirawira Tented Camp lies close to the Grumeti River and the western corridor of world-famous Serengeti National Park. At certain times of year this is one of the best places to witness the renowned Serengeti migration, when hundreds of thousands of wildebeest, zebra and other herbivores move en masse in search of prime grazing land, negotiating an unforgiving gauntlet of giant crocodiles and other predators including lion, leopard, cheetah, and hyena. Activities at Kirawira include daily nature drives to explore the endless Serengeti Plains and their abundant wildlife. There are good chances to see Africa’s legendary Big Five—lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant and rhino. Other activities include guided nature walks and optional excursions to Lake Victoria for sailing and fishing. Relax at camp, too, with a swim or a massage. Because fewer people visit this area of the Serengeti, Kirawira offers a truly secluded and exclusive safari experience.
During the famous Great Migration, the wildebeest can be found dropping their young in the southern Serengeti between December and March, and are typically found attempting to cross the Mara River in the northern Serengeti between July and October. The resident wildlife in the park is found year-round. Other typical sightings may include jackal, warthogs and a number of other mammals, birds and reptiles. Exact sightings will depend on rain patterns and wildlife movements.

Conservation
Kirawira Tented Camp participates in a number of eco-programs designed to support and sustain the natural and human community of which it is a part.
Among these is the provision of subsidized medical care to the local community, particularly maternal care and child immunizations, and fundraising for the construction of a healthcare clinic for the area. The camp provides employment for community members, offers an Employee Wellness Program, and encourages interface between guests and local villagers, hosting tours that highlight the heritage and traditions of local tribes and promoting the sale of handicrafts. The camp works with the Serengeti National Parks Authority on reforestation and maintaining park roads. In terms of its own ecological footprint, Kirawira has installed inverter systems to reduce the use of diesel-fuelled generators, implemented waste recycling and observes responsible practices with regard to sewage disposal, air emissions, pesticide-use, noise reduction and visual pollution. Wherever possible, local produce is featured on the menus.
