Our Expert Says
There is no other camp placed so perfectly between these two unique national parks. Chem Chem has the best of many worlds with its own private land, the ability to do walks and picnics, complete privacy, access to the giants—elephants and baobab trees—of Tarangire National Park and overlooking the great Lake Manyara with seasonal flocks of flamingo turning its surface pink. It is truly a special place in a class of its own.

The Camp
Location: Between Tarangire and Lake Manyara, Tanzania
Number of Tents: 8
Chem Chem Lodge was consciously placed within an exclusive wilderness area between two of Tanzania's great national parks—Tarangire and Lake Manyara. This private area ensures a secluded and private safari. Just eight stylish, canvas tents are dotted around a main lodge. Each of the 1,075-square feet suites is built from stone, wood and canvas in a vintage tent-like style, featuring an en suite bathroom with a bathtub and both indoor and outdoor showers. The family suite features the addition of a 500-square foot second bedroom sleeping up to four children or two adults complete with two single beds, a rocking chair, a small desk and its own en suite bathroom with indoor bathtub and outdoor shower. Between activities, the main house is a great spot to relax. A dining room, bar, lounge, outside fireplace, library and Amani spa offer relaxation and socializing. The viewing deck overlooks Lake Manyara and features a discrete pool deck tucked behind the trees.

Wildlife Viewing & Activities
Situated between two national parks, Chem Chem's private concession, once a natural migration corridor between the two parks, is an ideal location for nature and wildlife walks that compliment optional wildlife drives done here as well as in Tarangire and Lake Manyara national parks. Wildlife can be seen right from camp as well, with zebra and giraffe often crowding around the water holes in the dry season. Striking landscapes offer a unique backdrop for wildlife viewing, photography and bush picnics. A cultural element can be interjected with visits to nearby Maasai villages. The sum of the ecosystems means enormous elephant herds, towers of giraffe, dazzles of zebra, predators and plenty of antelopes. Hot air ballooning in Tarangire is an optional activity that can be booked in advance at an additional cost.
Tarangire has varying concentrations of wildlife viewing depending on the season, and the below chart helps to illustrate major wildlife sightings often experienced. Other typical sightings may include about 550 bird species and a number of other mammals and reptiles. Exact sightings will depend on seasonality and wildlife movements.
