The River Club, steeped in Edwardian ambience, is one of Africa’s most coveted accommodations. The secluded lodge rests among shade trees and manicured lawns on the banks of the Zambezi River, just 10 miles upstream from Victoria Falls. Eleven deluxe guest chalets overlook the river, while the main lodge, converted from the original colonial farmhouse, offers genteel environs for relaxing prior to or following a safari.

Wildlife Viewing & Activities
The highlight of any visit to Livingstone is of course Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Wonders of the Natural World. A mile and a half wide and 350 feet high, the sheer volume of its spray earned it the name “Mosi-oa-Tunya” from the local people, or “Smoke That Thunders” – the name that the surrounding national park now bears. Visitors can view the falls on guided tours, from self-guided rainforest trails, or on a helicopter or micro-light flight. But the falls aren’t Livingstone’s only attraction. Fishing, canoeing excursions and sunset cruises show a tamer side of the Zambezi, while whitewater rafting provides thrills in the gorge below. Visits to local villages and museums in Livingstone can also be arranged. Back at The River Club, play tennis, croquet, relax in the infinity pool or indulge in a spa treatment.
Wildlife can be viewed in the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park in Livingstone, Zambia, and can sometimes be found surrounding the camps dotted along the Zambezi River. The below chart helps to illustrate major wildlife sightings often experienced here. Other typical sightings may include bushbuck, vervet monkeys, baboons, banded mongoose and a number of other mammals, birds and reptiles. Exact sightings will depend on seasonality and wildlife movements.

Conservation
The River Club is a member of the international Eco-Luxury Group of lodges, dedicated to preserving the environment and supporting local people in the areas in which they operate. The River Club was recently awarded the Zambian Heritage and Culture Award for its work in preserving Livingstone’s heritage as well as social development efforts in the nearby village. Since 2000, The River Club has worked with Children in the Wilderness to renovate the water supply system that now provides clean water each day to the village, construct a police post at the request of the villagers, build a library and canteen at the school, construct a goat shed, provide sponsorships for 50 children to attend high schools in Livingstone, buy gardening tools for vegetable-growing by students, and pay for exam fees for children sitting for their annual tests. The lodge continues to raise money for a health clinic and a future project to expand electricity for village needs.
