Kigelia Ruaha features a mere six tents, providing a personalized experience for individuals and small groups. Each tent is built with the surrounding environment in mind, with natural-colored canvas and mesh flaps that can unzipped and rolled up to let in the breeze. Furnishings are made of local woods, and each tent has an en suite, open-air bathroom with a hot safari-style shower and flushing toilet. Relax on your private veranda where you may see elephant drinking at the water hole. The central areas of camp are tented in canvas with comfortable sofas and chairs and open on all sides when weather permits. It's incredible what the camp kitchen can do in this remote location. The food is simple yet hearty, warming and satisfying. Meals can be enjoyed in the intimate dining tent or beneath the stars. A camp fire serves as your nightly entertainment, accompanied by the stories of other guests, your guides and gracious hosts.

Wildlife Viewing & Activities

Activities at Kigelia include early morning and late afternoon wildlife adventures in open, custom-built 4x4 safari trucks, ideal for traversing the wild terrain of the park. Guided nature walks give a different perspective as well, allowing you to get into areas that a vehicle won't go. Feel the surface of a towering baobab tree, or examine the ant lion up close on the ground in all its complexity. The absence of noise allows you to connect with your surroundings on a new level. Bush meals and sundowner drinks out of camp are encouraged and endeavored daily. Animals of all shapes and sizes fill the park boundaries, with big-maned lions, enormous elephant herds, beautiful greater kudu and sable antelope to name a few. Leopard, hyena, cheetah and wild dog can also be spotted, as well as hippo, crocodile, buffalo, zebra, impala, gazelle, giraffe, baboons and various monkeys. Pack binoculars for excellent birding.

Each region has varying concentrations and species of wildlife, and the below chart helps to illustrate major wildlife sightings often experienced in the area. Other typical sightings may include giraffe, zebra, impala, jackal, bat-eared fox and a number of other mammals, birds and reptiles. Exact sightings will depend on seasonality and wildlife movements.
