Review For Leleshwa Camp (OLD)

This camp is a real gem, a throwback to a "real" safari experience. The owners of the camp Joe and Gillian were there when we visited and we felt like we were welcomed into their home. We did spend time in the Mara proper, but I but I enjoyed the time in the conservancy much, much more as there were no other vehicles. We did witness some large herds of wildebeest and it was wonderful to hear Simon describe details about the males earning their territories. I was afraid of visiting a village and school; I thought it might be tacky and touristy. Our visits could not have been more authentic. There was no show at all, no one selling anything, just a real glimpse into their lives. My husband even got up in front of the 5th graders and led them through some algebra problems. Leleshwa camp is a model for conservation giving back in many ways to the community. It felt great to be a part of their vision. The tents here are lovely; there is a lot of attention to detail to make everything comfortable. The food, particularly the baker should be commended. Do not miss the chance to stay here; I can't imagine a richer experience.
