Pristine wilderness is the backdrop for the six spacious tents of Savute Under Canvas. The camp is moved to a different private campsite every five or six days to ensure that wildlife drives continually explore new areas, following the movements of wildlife. Little separates safari-goers from the bush: nighttime noises filter through canvas walls, lit from within by lanterns, and animals wander past on use well-used trails on their way to popular watering holes. Yet the remote camp’s comforts are many: steaming hot bucket showers in en suite bathrooms, spacious doubled beds with full bedding, shaded verandas with chairs for relaxing and surveying the view. A tented common area offers sheltered space to relax in the heat of the day, and savory dinners are served beneath canvas each night on tables set with white linens and flickering candles. Wildlife Viewing & Activities
Savute is an area of open savanna through which a seasonal river runs. Savute is renowned for its large herds of elephant, especially its enormous bulls. Savute offers opportunities to spot the full complement of the Big Five: elephant, buffalo, rhino, lion and leopard. Savute supports a great concentration of lions and is a famous battleground for lion and spotted hyena. During the wet season, large herds of zebra and tsessebe migrate through the area, feeding on fresh green grass on the plains. During the summer rains, the pans of Savute fill with water, sustaining wildlife long into the dry season. Wildebeest congregate, and it is not uncommon to sight cheetah and the vanishing African wild dog. Morning and evening wildlife drives offer opportunities to experience all the spectacles this exceptional safari destination has to offer.
The below chart helps to illustrate major wildlife sightings often experienced in the Linyanti Reserve adjacent to the Chobe National Park. This area is well known for elephant herds, which are at their peak in the drier months of July to October, and it's a great location to track wild dogs and see lion. A variety of other mammals, birds and reptiles may be seen as well. Exact sightings will depend on weather trends and wildlife movements.
