Sandibe Safari Lodge is situated beneath a cool forest canopy of fig trees and wild palms on a private concession in Botswana's magnificent Okavango Delta. An expanse of exclusive land provides the most intimate wildlife experience alongside the Moremi Game Reserve. Recently reimagined architecturally as a premier wildlife camp, Sandibe echoes the winding waterways of this famous delta with beautifully curved, wooden structures and winding walkways, each overseeing the seasonal delta waters, grassy plains and her wild inhabitants.
Our Expert Says
Sandibe was rebuilt in 2014 as a premier safari camp with strong architectural elements. While it gets away from more classic tented safari accommodation, it maintains traditional wildlife drives and provides the top level of service. The camp itself is a unique experience, exploring the curves and organic lines of the delta in its almost whale bone-like structures and providing ideal views from each and every guest bed.

The Camp
Location: Okavango Delta, Botswana
Number of Rooms: 12
Sandibe Safari Lodge is like an architectural study of the delta. Curved structures of natural materials mimic the bends of the delta's waterways while providing a unique setting from which to view the floodplains. There are 12 suites, including one family suite, each with a private en suite bathroom with indoor and outdoor showers, private decks and plunge pools overlooking the plains, small fireplaces and cozy beds. The main areas of the lodge are structured almost like intact whale bones, curved high above your head and open on all sides for mesmerizing views. Natural materials and a neutral color palette blend with the outdoors. A dining table and bank of seating sit on the main deck platform while a bar and another seating area are found up several stairs, raised high for incredible views. A high, raised walkway leads safely to an al fresco dining deck, and walkways snake through the trees to each of the spacious and private suites.

Wildlife Viewing & Activities
Sandibe Safari Lodge benefits from the privacy of its own land concession and the dense wildlife coming across the unfenced border from Moremi Game Reserve. This is a hotbed of wildlife and nature, poised away from other camps and vehicles, reserved just for you. Days are spent exploring wide floodplains and a maze of papyrus seeking rare semi-aquatic red lechwe and sitatunga as well as fierce lion prides, leopard, cheetah and very elusive African wild dog. A magnificent concentration of elephant and buffalo can be seen in impressive herds, and roan and sable antelope wander the open woodlands. Hippo, zebra, giraffe and many more mammals as well as hundreds of bird species can be encountered and photographed against a backdrop of open grasses, riverine forest and evergreen thickets. Scenic helicopter flights can be booked at additional cost prior to travel, providing iconic views of the delta's bends and islands.
The Okavango Delta is a year-round wildlife viewing destination, with the peak mammal viewing in the dry winter between June and October and fantastic birding all year. The below chart shows major wildlife sightings. Other typical sightings may include small mammals, such as jackals, foxes, caracal and serval, and a wide variety of birds and reptiles. Exact sightings will depend on weather and wildlife movements and can vary from camp to camp, since many camps are located on islands.
