Number of Tents: 12
This eco-friendly camp at the edge of Botswana’s sprawling Khwai Private Wildlife Reserve is a complete rebuild of a longtime favorite bush camp. Part of a community-based partnership with a keen sensitivity for the environment and indigenous culture, the camp’s 12 new, raised, log and canvas tents overlook a lagoon that is frequented by thirsty wildlife. Stylish contemporary finishes in the tents include ethereal canopy beds, wood floors and crisp bedding. Each tent has its own deck, ceiling fan and en suite bathroom with flush toilet and private indoor and outdoor showers to rinse away the dust. A swimming pool, lounge and outdoor seating area share uninterrupted views of the vast plains and star-filled sky. In addition, Sable Alley’s Skybeds offer a rare opportunity to slumber under the stars. Elevated above a busy waterhole, rustic three-story raised platforms rely on lanterns and the stars for night light—and include the comfort of an enclosed bathroom with flush toilet on the ground floor (Skybeds must be booked prior to travel; min. age 15).

Wildlife Viewing & Activities
Overlooking a lagoon that’s connected to the Khwai and Sable Alley rivers, just a stone’s throw from the world-famous Moremi Game Reserve, this enviable location means that wildlife literally comes to you. From the swimming pool, lounge, outdoor seating areas and all the guest tents, there are uninterrupted views of a resident pod of around 30 hippos and a large herds of plains animals, elephant and buffalo that come to drink. Exploring further afield, the massive 495,000-acre Khwai Private Reserve comprises some of the most fantastically diverse habitats in northern Botswana, including riverine woodlands, open floodplains, rivers and mopane woodland. This facilitates a wide range of wildlife, including lion, leopard, wild dog, elephant, buffalo and the eponymous sable antelope. Wildlife viewing includes traditional safari vehicles both during the day and at night, plus mokoro safaris where you are gently ‘’poled’’ along the water in a traditional canoe when water levels are high.
The Okavango Delta is a year-round wildlife viewing destination, with the peak mammal viewing in the dry winter between June and October and fantastic birding all year. The below chart shows major wildlife sightings. Other typical sightings may include small mammals, such as jackals, foxes, caracal and serval, and a wide variety of birds and reptiles. Exact sightings will depend on weather and wildlife movements and can vary from camp to camp, since many camps are located on islands.
