Meaning "teeth of the crocodile," Meno a Kwena is a hidden gem sitting on a 100-foot cliff peering over the Boteti River and Makgadikgadi Pans National Park. The Boteti River is the only permanent water source in this dry region, and one can imagine how the river draws wildlife to it. Herds of elephant congregate near camp year-round, and the dry season of May to November sees the second largest zebra migration in the world.

The Camp

Location: Makgadikgadi Pans National Park, Botswana
Number of Tents: 10

Meno a Kwena dates back to a time of exploration, and today it is an owner-run camp and has been entirely refurbished with all the comforts safari-goers have come to expect. There are ten brand new tented rooms, built with canvas overhead, mesh window screens and each with an en suite bathroom and private veranda overlooking the Boteti River. The main areas of camp offer simple comfort and tranquility with cozy covered and shaded sitting areas and a shared dining space for family-style meals. Most nights are spent beneath the stars around a blazing campfire trading stories from the day over a cool beverage and canapés, and al fresco dinners at a long table are typical on clear evenings. A natural rock plunge pool shares the camps amazing river views, providing a rare and special serenity.

Wildlife Viewing & Activities

Antelope tend to migrate into the central and eastern Kalahari deserts following water and grasses between December and April, often followed by predators. During the driest months from June to October, the landscape hosts fewer large mammals but the most commonly viewed animals at this time may be gemsbok, springbok, red hartebeest and steenbok and a number of other small mammals, birds and reptiles. Exact sightings will depend on weather and wildlife movements.
