The Camp
Location: Akagera National Park, Rwanda
Number of Rooms: 6
At Magashi Camp, six spacious and airy tented guest rooms are perched along wooden boardwalks, offering uninterrupted views over Lake Rwanyakazinga. Earthy tones with hints of pink prevail, as does genuine Rwandan hospitality. Magashi’s warm and welcoming staff love sharing their traditional Kugisha supper with guests, accompanied by cattle-herding songs and stories. The camp's main area is draped in canvas and comprises a cozy lounge, dining and bar area, wine cellar and pool, as well as an expansive viewing deck with a fire pit. Wildlife Viewing & Activities
Magashi Camp is situated in the productive and phenomenally diverse northeastern corner of Akagera National Park. Magashi is the only private access area in Akagera and comprises nearly 15,000 acres of exclusive wilderness. Akagera features some of the most scenic savanna in East Africa, with open plains, woodlands, lakes, swamp, and grassy low mountains. Guests will be able to view a range of wildlife, including buffalo, lion, leopard, elephant, giraffe, spotted hyaena, zebra, topi, roan, eland and more. The park is home to one of Africa’s highest hippo densities, very large crocodiles, as well as the rare sitatunga. It also boasts almost 500 species of birds including the spectacular shoebill with its implausibly massive bill and the near-endemic red-faced barbet. African Parks reintroduced lion in 2015 and black rhino in 2017, making Akagera a thriving Big Five wildlife area. Experience all of this on day and night wildlife drives in open 4x4 vehicles, guided walks, boating trips and perhaps enjoy catch-and-release fishing. For a safari that nearly no one has experienced yet, Rwanda’s Akagera is a spectacular destination waiting to be discovered.
