Machaba Camp features eight stylish, canvas safari tents and two spacious family tents, welcoming children of all ages. Situated along a lush treeline on the Khwai River, your veranda is the ideal spot to watch animals venture to the riverbank to quench their thirst. The camp's lightly-colored canvas structures, rich wood furnishings, brass fans and metal beds harken back to a time of exploration and adventure while maintaining luxurious touches, such as fine bed linens, tufted sofas and colorful rugs. Each en suite bathroom has two sinks with vanity mirrors and an open-air shower with hot running water. The camp features a central swimming pool with sun loungers, a cozy tented main area that can be opened to the fresh air or enclosed during chilly or inclement weather, a small library, idyllic views over the Khwai River and Moremi Game Reserve and an in-house spa therapist, with treatments including massages and facials done in the privacy of your tent.

Wildlife Viewing & Activities

Machaba Camp is situated in the game rich Khwai area. The Khwai Concession is a 445,000-acre reserve situated in the north eastern Okavango adjacent to the Moremi Game Reserve. Animals are prolific, including lion, leopard, hyena, elephant, buffalo, giraffe, zebra and much more. Wildlife drives are conducted in the mornings and afternoon/evenings at camp. They usually last about three hours each and are conducted along the river systems and flood plains around the camp. The wildlife in the area is prolific and chances are good to see some of the larger predators, herds of elephant and buffalo and all the plains animals that occur here. Night drives are conducted in the early evening offering one a chance to see the smaller more nocturnal animals with spotlights.

The Okavango Delta is a year-round wildlife viewing destination, with the peak mammal viewing in the dry winter between June and October and fantastic birding all year. The below chart shows major wildlife sightings. Other typical sightings may include small mammals, such as jackals, foxes, caracal and serval, and a wide variety of birds and reptiles. Exact sightings will depend on weather and wildlife movements and can vary from camp to camp, since many camps are located on islands.
