Opened in May 2015, Linkwasha Camp was rebuilt as a luxury wildlife-focused camp. Just eight spacious tents overlook the private Linkwasha Concession, one of the most private and arguably the best wildlife-viewing areas of Hwange National Park. The lodge embodies a modern design flair that incorporates natural, local materials while featuring the best of contemporary comforts. It's a new and impressive version of one of Zimbabwe's greatest safari camps.

Linkwasha Camp is situated in the southeast corner of Hwange National Park on the private Linkwasha Concession, an area encompassing nearly 130,000 acres of exclusive-access land. Nine canvas-and-glass tents include one family tent, and each has an en suite bathroom with screened windows and doors for the summer months, and glass for the colder winter nights. A waterhole in front of camp draws animals for frequent drinking in this often-arid region. The main lodge comprises a multi-level deck with sweeping views, along with a swimming pool, dining area, library, winter lounge and cozy fireplace.

Wildlife Viewing & Activities

Guests in the Linkwasha Concession can enjoy early morning and late afternoon wildlife drives that last after dusk, when you search for nocturnal creatures and hunting predators. Walks and village visits are also possible. Staggering herds of Cape buffalo and African savanna elephant roam free, numbering in the thousands. Some 30,000 elephant inhabit Hwange, with herd sizes peaking in the dry season when animals gather around a few waning water sources. More than 100 mammal species are at home in Hwange National Park, including lion, leopard, cheetah, spotted hyena, brown hyena, wild dog, various mongooses, jackals, hares, primates and the elusive porcupine, caracal, aardwolf and African wildcat. White rhino have been reintroduced with hopes of growing a natural population—there are currently too few to see in the wild with any likelihood. Plains game includes eland, roan, sable, giraffe, zebra and wildebeest, among many others.

Hwange National Park experiences large herds of elephant and buffalo, especially in the dry season from May to November. The below chart helps to illustrate major wildlife sightings often experienced in the area. Other typical sightings may include jackals, caracal and a number of other mammals, birds and reptiles. Exact sightings will depend on seasonality and wildlife movements.
