Kwara Camp overlooks a secluded lagoon in the northern Okavango Delta, in a permanently flooded region of reed- and papyrus-lined waterways and islands. The rolling grasslands and forests of the Moremi Game Reserve are nearby, and the diverse mosaic of habitats supports a wide range of year-round wildlife. The camp is secluded within the private 434,000-acre Kwara Concession, ensuring a remote and authentic wilderness experience.
Our Expert Says
Kwara Camp was rebuilt in 2019 in its wonderful original location, but with a smaller footprint and more style and comfort taken into account. This camp is for adults, as they only take guests 18 and older, and they limit each nine-seat, open 4x4 Land Cruiser to just four guests for added exclusivity.

The Camp
Location: Okavango Delta, Botswana
Number of Tents: 9
Kwara Camp accommodates a maximum of 18 guests in nine tents on raised decks, each offering superb views of the lagoon. The fresh, spacious tents are slightly raised off the ground and draped in a light khaki canvas. The mix of sustainable wood and textiles in an airy neutral palette give each tented suite a calming, natural yet modern feel. Each accommodation is configured length-wise, stretching from a luxurious en suite bathroom on one end to a cozy sitting area and desk at the other. Screened windows span across the front, providing a view of the bush from the bathtub, bed or sofa. Beautiful rugs and cushions adorn the lounge to add character and comfort for morning coffee or midday reading, while private verandas offer a survey of the wilderness panorama on display before you. The camp is shaded by towering ebony and mangosteen trees to keep it cool in the heat of the day, while hundreds of birds add to the feeling of serenity in a location that is one of the Okavango's best-kept secrets. The main lodge includes a lounge area, bar and dining room under thatch, plus a plunge pool for cooling off during the heat of midday. Guides dine with guests to share stories and further enrich their knowledge. At night, the nature sounds of the wild delta are your lullaby.

Wildlife Viewing & Activities
Kwara Camp, in the midst of the largest private concession in the region, boasts superb wildlife viewing, limiting each nine-passenger open 4x4 vehicle to just four guests. In addition to wildlife drives, the camp offers guided safari walks, mokoro trips, motorboat explorations and fishing. A two-person team of professional guide and tracker ensures expert interpretation and that no sightings are missed. Wildlife drive times are entirely flexible. Kwara’s staff believes that wildlife activities and sightings should dictate meal times, not the other way around. Night drives are a Kwara specialty, when predators are revealed by spotlight. Walking in Africa's wild areas is a captivating experience, as many smaller species of plants and insects, tracks and signs are missed from a vehicle. River expeditions reveal a multitude of birds and scenic vistas. Avid birders won’t want to miss the boat trip to the well-known heronry at Gcodikwe Lagoon (best from Sept to Feb). Excellent photo opportunities abound as you get up close at eye-level to the herons.
The Okavango Delta is a year-round wildlife viewing destination, with the peak mammal viewing in the dry winter between June and October and fantastic birding all year. The below chart shows major wildlife sightings. Other typical sightings may include small mammals, such as jackals, foxes, caracal and serval, and a wide variety of birds and reptiles. Exact sightings will depend on weather and wildlife movements and can vary from camp to camp, since many camps are located on islands.

Conservation
The owners of Kwara Camp, who are all Botswana citizens, have invested in environmental best practices throughout all areas of operation. They have pioneered the use of renewable energy within the Botswana safari industry. In a land blessed with an abundance of sun, the natural option for generating power and heating water lies in solar technology. All electrical appliances used in the camps are energy-saving products—from light bulbs to fans and ice machines. All wastewater in the camps is treated using above-ground state-of-the-art sewage treatment plants to prevent cross-contamination of the soils or ground water. Intelligent design uses insulated walling and thatch in camp construction to avoid the need for energy-intensive cooling systems. As part of the company's social responsibility program, it supports the Lady Khama Charitable Trust, which funds many charitable initiatives in Botswana. Kwara Camp will match any guest’s charitable donation to this fund.
