Situated in a long-established private concession in Botswana’s Linyanti region, Kwando Lagoon Camp overlooks the Kwando River, peering into Namibia’s Muduma National Park just across the border. The camp rests beneath a towering ebony and marula forest frequented by elephants and features just eight elegant and spacious luxury safari tents. Wild dogs, large herds of buffalo and elephant, and reliable hippo in front of camp create a well-earned reputation for wildlife.
Our Expert Says
Kwando Lagoon Camp is in a fantastic, wild setting. You truly feel removed, yet in such a wildlife-rich area. There aren't that many camps in Botswana that are set along rivers where fishing and boating is possible, so the diversity of activities and dense wildlife makes Kwando Lagoon a great camp to combine with the Okavango Delta.

Wildlife Viewing & Activities
Kwando Lagoon Camp is set within the mammoth 573,300-acre Kwando Concession. Sightings of elusive wild dogs, while still somewhat sporadic, are more common in the Linyanti and Kwando area than in many other areas of Botswana. The Kwando area sees enormous herds of elephant, which are particularly fond of the marula trees, and buffalo with herd sizes peaking in the dry winter months between July and September. Hippos are ever-present in the Kwando River just in front of camp, announcing themselves frequently with their grunts. Activities from Lagoon Camp include early-morning and late-afternoon wildlife drives, as well as drives that linger on into twilight to seek out predators on the hunt and nocturnal creatures. Fishing and boating on the river are also offered, and guided walking is possible seasonally.
The below chart helps to illustrate major wildlife sightings often experienced in the Linyanti Reserve adjacent to the Chobe National Park. This area is well known for elephant herds, which are at their peak in the drier months of July to October, and it's a great location to track wild dogs and see lion. A variety of other mammals, birds and reptiles may be seen as well. Exact sightings will depend on weather trends and wildlife movements.

Conservation
Kwando Lagoon Camp is located in a fragile wilderness area and uses solar power and water heating to minimize its footprint. State-of-the-art, above-ground wastewater treatment capabilities ensure that there is no cross-contamination of the ground water or soil with gray water coming from the camp. Once wastewater is fully treated, the safe end product is returned to the ground. As a citizen-owned company, Kwando helps its staff to build careers within the company and promotes from within. Much of the staff consists of employees who began in entry-level positions and worked their way up to management. Kwando also supports the Lady Khama Charitable Trust (LKCT). The LKCT supports several charitable initiatives throughout the country, and Kwando matches many of the donations received. Guests are offered a chance to contribute, and Kwando Safaris pledges to match each guest’s contribution.
