Kings Camp exudes the elegance of a bygone age while practicing modern conservation and community initiatives in the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, directly bordering Kruger National Park, one of Africa’s most prized wildlife sanctuaries. Within this vast private wilderness, lion, leopard, rhino, zebra, giraffe, elephant, buffalo and much more can be seen, while in camp one can gaze out over the savanna and waterhole, never very far from the abundance of wildlife.
Our Expert Says
Kings Camp is in an area that is still a bit of a secret, as not many people know the "Timbavati." This area has a naturally occurring population of white lion, along with all the sought after predators and plains game, but fewer people than many other popular areas.

Wildlife Viewing & Activities
Kings Camp sits within the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, which provides guests nearly 135,000 acres of land to explore. The reserve directly borders an unfenced Kruger National Park, allowing wildlife to move freely and offering excellent animal sightings. The "big five" are present, including lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo, along with classic safari wildlife, such as giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, impala, warthogs and a number of other antelopes, monkeys, myriad birdlife as well as reptiles and insects. A typical day may begin with an early rise and a wildlife drive at dawn, providing more activity and cooler temperatures, followed by a lovely brunch and siesta. Guided walks with trackers showcase the smaller aspects of safari, and afternoon tea is followed by another drive, often trailing into dusk with an exciting night drive seeking out nocturnal creatures and predators on the hunt.
Kruger National Park is a quintessential wildlife destination, featuring the Big Five and other big cats and large mammals. The below chart helps to illustrate major wildlife sightings often experienced in the area. Other typical sightings may include warthogs, baboons and a number of other mammals, birds and reptiles. Conservation
For all guests staying at Kings Camp, money goes toward the Timbavati Conservation Fund, which funds the management of the reserve, maintaining fences on the outer boundaries that protect the reserve and its wildlife, managing important firebreaks within the reserve, monitoring the ecology and wildlife populations of the reserve, and mitigating erosion by human impact on the land. Anti-poaching is a very important function funded by tourism. With rhino and elephant at high risk for poaching, these efforts are vital for the survival of these species and others. The Timbavati Foundation also benefits education, training, healthcare and sustainability programs in the surrounding areas of Hoedspruit.
