Belmond Khwai River Lodge sits in one of the most coveted Okavango Delta locations, bordering the world-famous Moremi Game Reserve. While sparing no comfort, the luxurious tented accommodations provide superb proximity to the sounds of nature just outside your door. Khwai is the beating heart of the delta, and Moremi is protected grounds for a managerie of elephant, lion, buffalo, leopard, giraffe, zebra and much more, all freely wandering, passing by the lodge and in view out in the bush.
Our Expert Says
Belmond Khwai River Lodge is one of the few lodges in Botswana that feature luxury tented rooms with air conditioning, true also of her sister properties, Belmond Savute Elephant Lodge and Belmond Eagle Island Lodge. The three lodges create a perfect complementary circuit in three unique areas of northern Botswana, or each can stand alone as a fantastic luxury tented accommodation in its respective location. While offering plenty of contemporary comforts, the lodges embrace their surroundings, with many outdoor and open-air spaces and of course, the ultimate wildlife viewing experience each offers.

Wildlife Viewing & Activities
Belmond Khwai River Lodge is set within a private concession along the Khwai River floodplains amid a leadwood and fig tree forest. Directly bordering the famed Moremi Game Reserve, the lodge surveys the free movement of dense animal populations in its own exclusive environment. Early morning and late afternoon wildlife drives in open 4x4 vehicles can be interspersed with guided walking safaris, stops in the bush for tea, coffee or sunset cocktails, stargazing and nighttime wildlife drives. The Khwai River floodplains support large concentrations of mammals year-round. Observe lion, leopard, elephant, hippo, hyenas, zebra, giraffe and many more species of plains wildlife, predators big and small, and endemic bird species. At the lodge, spa treatments in the private setting of your own veranda are available at an additional cost, while the swimming pool is a perfect place to relax and cool off after a sumptuous lunch.
The Okavango Delta is a year-round wildlife viewing destination, with the peak mammal viewing in the dry winter between June and October and fantastic birding all year. The below chart shows major wildlife sightings. Other typical sightings may include small mammals, such as jackals, foxes, caracal and serval, and a wide variety of birds and reptiles. Exact sightings will depend on weather and wildlife movements and can vary from camp to camp, since many camps are located on islands.
