Dulini Lodge is the epitome of a boutique, luxury safari camp, set in a riverine grove sanctuary within its own private reserve. A mere six tents provide a comfortable retreat in between awe-inspiring wildlife experiences. Set out at dawn to find elephant, leopard, rhino and more without the crowds of a big park. The owner-run camp takes you away from cookie-cutter hotels and into a home-away-from-home in the bush.
Our Expert Says
Dulini is a hidden gem. I love the smaller properties that are owner-run and managed. It makes all of the difference when it comes to the small details. It is clear the owner Ian puts his whole heart into making each guest experience special. The rooms are thoughtfully laid out, and there are many animals that graze on the grass in the main area. I loved standing on the bridge to watch the birds and animals on the river below. Game abounds here. I saw many cats on each drive. The guides and trackers made sure we saw a wide variety. This is “the place” to visit in the Sabi Sand area.

The Camp
Location: Sabi Sand Game Reserve, South Africa
Number of Suites: 6
Dulini Lodge is the quintessential small camp in the Sabi Sand. With only six exquisite, free-standing, thatched suites, Dulini hosts a select few guests at any given time, affording you the most intimate and personalized experience beneath ancient ebony and leadwood trees. Set along the Mabrak River, Dulini's six private suites each feature an en suite bathroom, private deck and private plunge pool overlooking the bush. The main lodge is warming with deep sofas gathered around a fireplace, a dining room, wine cellar, central swimming pool, fitness center and small curio shop. The boma is a traditional, outdoor dining corral for enjoying al fresco meals around a fire. A viewing deck produces frequent wildlife sightings in camp. Spending your midday siesta in camp can prove to be both relaxing and animal-filled, either from the comfort of the main lodge or your own private veranda.

Wildlife Viewing & Activities
Dulini Lodge uses the talents of both skilled rangers and local Shangaan trackers to ensure the most natural and best wildlife viewing experience. These experts have often grown up in the area and have an unrivaled knowledge of the vegetation, the wildlife and can navigate effortlessly through the lush scenery. They follow fresh animal tracks, often into ravines and thickets, sensitively weaving through endemic vegetation. Early morning and late afternoon wildlife drives seek out the Big Five—lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo—as well as cheetah, wild dog, hyena and common plains animals like giraffe and zebra. The typically elusive leopard is prominent here in the Sabi Sand, as are both white and black rhinos. Dulini's private reserve sits within the western Sabi Sand Game Reserve, one of South Africa's most well-known natural gems, dense with Africa's most sought after predators, antelopes and large mammals.
The Sabi Sand is known for great leopard viewing, healthy rhino populations and the rest of the Big Five, making it a great wildlife destination for all levels of safari experience. The below chart helps to illustrate major wildlife sightings often experienced here. Other typical sightings may include warthogs, baboons and a number of other mammals, birds and reptiles.
