The Camp
Location: Okavango Delta, Botswana
Number of Tents: 12
Shaded within a grove of ancient ebony trees, Camp Moremi accommodates just 24 guests in traditional safari-style tented rooms, including one family tent with two en suite bedrooms. Each canvas-sided tent is situated on a raised teak platform with private en suite bathroom facilities and a viewing deck, most offering a panorama over the Xakanaxa Lagoon, with its abundant resident wildlife. An elevated thatch and timber structure serves as the elegant main lodge, comprising a roomy sitting area, well-stocked wildlife reference library, dining room and cocktail bar. Wildlife Viewing & Activities
Camp Moremi lies at the edge of the Xakanaxa Lagoon in the Moremi Game Reserve, within a large tract of towering mopane forest surrounded by winding channels and sprawling floodplains. The Xakanaxa area boasts a huge population of antelope, which entice predators. Guests often spot lions, cheetahs and leopards roaming the area. Water-based activities in the delta are always a delight, whether a poled mokoro excursion or a motorboat cruise on the main waterways and lagoons. Traditional 4x4 safari vehicles are used on the main islands for morning and afternoon wildlife drives. The incrdible wetlands support many antelopes and prolific bird life. Vast herds of elephant, buffalo and hippo are at home here, as well as giraffe and zebra, wild dog and plenty of crocodile. With more than 450 birds species, this region is also paradise for birdwatchers.
The Okavango Delta is a year-round wildlife viewing destination, with the peak mammal viewing in the dry winter between June and October and fantastic birding all year. The below chart shows major wildlife sightings. Other typical sightings may include small mammals, such as jackals, foxes, caracal and serval, and a wide variety of birds and reptiles. Exact sightings will depend on weather and wildlife movements and can vary from camp to camp, since many camps are located on islands.
