Nxabega Camp sits on the edge of the permanent delta in a 17,300-acre private wildlife concession bordering the Moremi Game Reserve. Massive canopies of African ebony trees provide seclusion within this splendidly remote location overlooking expansive lagoons, channels and reed floodplains. Day and night safari drives, bush walks, and mokoro and motorboat cruises immerse guests in close-up encounters with prolific wildlife.
Our Expert Says
It’s rare that you find a delta camp so well integrated into its surroundings, but Nxabega has accomplished just this. The camp is comfortable but not over-the-top luxurious. The décor is chic, but the grass pathways keep the atmosphere feeling very down-to-earth. My favorite thing about Nxabega is that each tent has its own front porch!

The Camp
Nxabega provides an unusual level of luxury for such a remote location. Nine elegantly appointed safari tents are raised on wooden platforms to maximize views over the floodplains. Each is exceptionally spacious, furnished in warm earth tones with richly textured fabrics, burnished teakwood floors and accents, fans, private verandas and generous en suite bathrooms. Tents are private, yet have easy access to the camp’s thatched main areas. Broad viewing decks survey reed marshes that draw plenty of wildlife. Sweeping guest areas invite mid-day relaxation – curl up with a book on the inviting sofa, or enjoy the cool refreshment of the swimming pool. Dining at Nxabega is a delight, whether an open-air breakfast or lunch in the shade of the riverine forest, afternoon tea in the thatch-covered dining area, or a starlit bush dinner, the stuff of incomparable memories.

Wildlife Viewing & Activities
Known as “the river that never finds the sea,” the Okavango Delta is a wilderness haven teeming with wildlife within the Kalahari Desert. A safari among this oasis of islands and crystal-clear channels is like none other. Wildlife drives are offered twice daily in open-air 4x4 vehicles accompanied by an expert guide and tracker team. Explore the diverse geography—floodplains, seasonal grasslands, woodlands, shrublands and savannas—as you track the Big Five as well as giraffe, zebra, semi-aquatic lechwe and sitatunga antelope. Nxabega is a birdwatchers’ paradise, with more than 450 species. An exciting option is to discover the African wilderness on foot with an interpretive bush walk, an intimate adventure revealing details easily missed on a drive. A mokoro ride is a must, gliding silently through waterways fringed by dense reeds, water lilies and papyrus, learning about the rich ecological mosaic of plants, animals and birds.
The Okavango Delta is a year-round wildlife viewing destination, with the peak mammal viewing in the dry winter between June and October and fantastic birding all year. The below chart shows major wildlife sightings. Other typical sightings may include small mammals, such as jackals, foxes, caracal and serval, and a wide variety of birds and reptiles. Exact sightings will depend on weather and wildlife movements and can vary from camp to camp, since many camps are located on islands.

Conservation
Wildlife conservation and ecotourism are vital for Africa's future and the prosperity of its people. It is estimated that over the next decade tourism will become the single biggest contributor to Southern African GDP, and the greatest creator of new and sustainable jobs on the subcontinent. Nxabega’s operators believe that we can help to protect Africa's threatened ecosystems, endangered species and the precious diversity of its wilderness through our model of low-impact, high-yield responsible luxury adventure tourism. By placing an economic value on conservation and wilderness land, and ensuring that the local communities benefit from the camp’s activities, Nxabega can guarantee that these wild areas have a future. However, this goal can only be accomplished by engaging with local communities and maintaining the value of Africa's wilderness regions by ensuring exceptional guest experiences.
