Ngala Tented Camp is one of the few true canvas tented accommodations in South Africa's Greater Kruger Park. Hear the sounds of hippo grunting and lion far in the distance as you lay down to bed each night. Well-equipped with the comforts of home, Ngala Tented Camp provides luxurious touches in its linens, spacious en suite bathrooms, African artworks and cuisine, all coupled with Big Five wildlife viewing in a private reserve.
Our Expert Says
Ngala Tented Camp is a great alternative to the typical "lodge" style safari accommodation in the Kruger Park area. Within it's own private reserve, you don't see other vehicles, and you miss the crowds of Kruger without missing the animals. While it is tented, the tents are more like suites and have air conditioning, soaking tubs and only the finest fixtures.

The Camp
Location: Ngala Private Reserve, Greater Kruger Park, South Africa
Number of Tents: 9
Ngala Tented Camp features just nine canvas tents within its own private game reserve that flows into Kruger National Park. Each of the luxurious tented suites sits on a raised wooden platform along a seasonal riverbed where you may witness elephant or impala traipsing along while you enjoy your morning cup of tea on your private veranda. The tents each feature air conditioning and en suite bathrooms with free-standing bathtubs and private outdoor showers. Wooden floors and furniture and fine linens provide you comfort in an otherwise wild land. The main areas of camp are spacious, but intimate, all overlooking the seasonal river. It's always possible to spot animals right from camp. Parafin lanterns at dusk and twilight create a sense of romance and elegance. Meals can be enjoyed in the main open-air dining area or on your own private deck. A swimming pool is ideal for a dip between activities.

Wildlife Viewing & Activities
Ngala Private Game Reserve is situated within Kruger National Park and surrounded by an unfenced border, allowing animals to move uninhibited between the two. The camp enjoys over 36,000 acres of land exclusively for its own wildlife drives and walks. Particularly known for great elephant, buffalo and rhino, Ngala also has a resident pack of wild dog, and cheetah and leopard are often encountered. Blue wildebeest, kudu, zebra, warthog, spotted hyena, hippo and more animals can be viewed here. Early morning wildlife drives reveal activity among predators before the heat of the day sets in. Elephant and buffalo are often seen in large herds grazing along the reed beds of the Timbavati River. Predators tend to hunt in the late afternoon, evening and twilight hours of the day when the temperatures are cool and they have the advantage of night vision. Night wildlife drives and walks with armed guides are unique activities while at Ngala.
