Le Quartier Francais has long been a mainstay in the Cape wine village of Franschhoek, meaning "French corner" in Afrikaans. Settled by French Huguenot refugees in 1688, the historic, stunning valley town is just 45 minutes from Cape Town. Le Quartier Francais is a family affair, privately owned and managed by Susan Huxter right in the heart of Franschhoek. Celebrated for its award-winning Tasting Room restaurant and long-established reputation, the hotel is truly a gem.
Our Expert Says
Le Quartier Francais is a great go-to hotel in the Cape Winelands. It's located on the main street of Franschhoek, a favorite of the wineland villages, in walking distance of shopping and dining. Although you must sample the cuisine and wines of Le Quartier itself, they are some of the best in town!

The Hotel
Location: Franschhoek, Cape Winelands, South Africa
Number of Rooms: 20
Le Quartier Francais is a well-known and highly revered boutique hotel in the Franschhoek Valley. With just 20 individually designed rooms and suites, the property is ideally located on the main street of town, within easy walking distance from various, high end boutiques and restaurants. At approximately 861 square feet in size, the Pool Suite features a private walled garden and secluded pool and has an en suite bathroom with a bathtub and shower. Protégé is a casual-style eatery at Le Quartier Français under the guidance of Scot Kirton, founder of the La Colombe group of which this restaurant is a member. From the team behind La Colombe and other world-class establishments, Épice (French for 'spice' and pronounced eh-peace) is an intimate fine dining restaurant, serving an array of delectably curated dishes which take you on a spice journey. The fine-dining restaurant is headed by chef Charné Sampson (previously sous chef at La Colombe). The Great Heart Wines Boutique recalibrates the notion of an intimate and personalised wine tasting with availability for a table that sits four guests at a time for Le Quartier Français and Leeu House guests only. Great Heart Wines is a staff empowerment project of Mullineux & Leeu Family Wines. Adjacent to Le Quartier Français, Everard Read Franschhoek, in partnership with Leeu Collection, is a considered space showing the best modern and contemporary artworks by southern African artists. The gallery includes a sculpture garden for monumental works interspersed with herbs and vegetables, the first of its kind in South Africa. The fresh produce from the garden features on the menus of the Leeu Collection’s restaurants. For guests wanting spa treatments, Leeu Spa by Healing Earth, set amongst the vineyards, is an immersive wellness sanctuary that offers holistic treatments and experiences by expert therapists. The tailor-made offerings are inspired by Africa’s rich natural resources, with a unique focus on the myriad therapeutic benefits of South Africa’s unique Pinotage grape.
