Nairobi
Day 1
A rough outpost amidst a highland swamp as the colonial capital of British East Africa in 1907, Nairobi today is the urban heartbeat of independent Kenya and one of Africa’s most important cities. Nairobi has long been a meeting point for adventurers and travelers from all over the world, and most Kenya safaris still originate here. Nairobi’s national museum and the historic home of Karen Blixen, author of Out of Africa, are popular attractions.
Ole Sereni Hotel
Located just off Mombasa Road, Ole Sereni border the Nairobi National Park. The name of the hotel is taken from the Maasai language meaning "place of tranquility." The hotel's veranda and pool areas as well as many of the rooms offer idyllic views over the national park, often hosting towering giraffes or grazing zebras. One can forget they are so close to the city as they stare at the vast landscape.
Amboseli / Chuylu Hills
Days 2–4
Elephants abound in Amboseli, and to see these African icons against the backdrop of snow-topped Mount Kilimanjaro is a timeless image of the continent. This mosaic of dusty plains and swampy springs is also home to buffalo, wildebeest, zebra, impala, hyena, lion, leopard, cheetah and a third of Kenya’s nearly 1,100 bird species. The nearby photogenic black lava Chyulu Hills are a captivating area of ancient craters, rolling grasslands and aromatic cedar forest.
Ol Donyo Lodge
Ol Donyo Lodge combines exceptional luxury with a remote, wild setting far from tourist crowds—the perfect context for an extraordinary safari. The renowned lodge sits on the slopes of the Chyulu Hills with views of snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro and incredible access to seasonal elephant migrations. A graceful and elegant bush lodge, Ol Donyo’s rich history exemplifies a passion for both conservation and extraordinary wildlife encounters.
Samburu Nat'l Reserve
Days 5–7
At the heart of Samburu’s rugged wilderness in arid northern Kenya, the Ewaso Nyiro River flows—a permanent water supply and oasis that is a magnet for wildlife. Samburu offers Kenya’s most frequent leopard sightings, also lion, cheetah, elephant and buffalo. Found only in this region are such creatures as reticulated giraffe and Grevy’s zebra. Birdwatching is superb, with numerous weaver birds, martial eagle and blue-legged Somali ostrich.
Saruni Samburu
Perched atop a spectacular overlook, Saruni Samburu Camp is located within a private wildlife conservancy bordering Samburu National Reserve. Guest villas enjoy 360-degree views of the unspoiled landscapes of northern Kenya, including snow-capped Mount Kenya, vast savannas where herds of elephant roam and a waterhole that attracts zebra, reticulated giraffe, oryx and many more. The local culture of the Kalama community also enriches your safari adventure here.
Maasai Mara Nat'l Reserve
Days 8–10
The famed Maasai Mara is one of Africa’s most acclaimed wildlife reserves, renowned for its wildebeest migration, prides of lion and huge herds of plains animals. The Mara is the northern portion of the Serengeti Plains, and we find excellent wildlife viewing all year long in these grasslands. The reserve is named for the Maasai tribespeople, the traditional inhabitants of the area who graze cattle here, and the Mara River that runs through it.
Mara Expedition Camp
Mara Expedition Camp is built on a small bend in the Ntiakitiak River, where a thick riverine forest meets the unbridled savanna in the Maasai Mara National Reserve. It enjoys prime access to both the reserve and the Mara North Conservancy, the perfect location for this intimate, tented camp, which was built with a light footprint in mind. The mobility and non-permanence of Mara Expedition Camp speaks to its reverence for its surrounding environment.
